Microbial Additives
Lactosan has been developing and producing starter cultures and strains for probiotics since 1989. With decades of experience in fermentation and freeze-drying, we are able to respond flexibly and individually to the needs of our customers. From the isolation and characterisation of new strains, through process development and fermentation, to industrial scale production and subsequent freeze-drying and packaging of the product, everything remains in one hand. Animal Health / Human Use
In the Microbial Additives division, we have two completely separate production lines for animal nutrition probiotics and silage starter cultures on the one hand, and human probiotics and food starter cultures on the other.

Fermentation
Lactosan has three complete fermentation lines which are controlled by a process control system and can be fully sterilised.

Separation

Freeze drying
The aim of freeze-drying is to obtain a dried, very water-soluble product that retains the properties of the original product after the addition of water.

Fluidised bed drying
In the Microbial Additives plant, it is possible to dry the bacterial concentrate in the fluidized bed plant as an alternative to freeze-drying.

Grinding
After drying, further processing takes place in the respective powder line. The product flakes dried by lyophilisation are crushed in mills.
Mixing
After the drying and milling process, the powder is processed on the relevant powder line and the final product is mixed according to specification.
Packaging
After processing in the respective powder line, the dried powder is filled according to customer's requirements.

Are you interested in our own strains?
Our strain collection comprises approximately 2,000 different strains and is constantly being expanded with bacterial strains isolated from natural habitats. Isolated strains are tested in-house in accordance with requirements for agglomeration, pH and bile salt tolerance and antibiotic susceptibility. Products containing our strains have been successful on the market for many years. It is possible to customise individual strains or strain mixtures with specific bacterial counts and carriers.
