Process development

Do you need process development or process step optimisation in addition to full-scale production?

The R&D laboratories and the pilot plant, a scaled-down copy of the production plant, can be used to carry out research projects and process development.

The pilot plant allows small quantities (up to 500 litres) to be produced for test purposes and to gain important insights for subsequent scale-ups.

Quality assurance

To ensure the most consistent quality possible, regular analytical checks are carried out on the batches produced. Each production batch is carefully monitored throughout the process. Depending on the specification, further microbiological analysis and activity checks done before the finished product is released. This also ensures compliance with our strict quality system.

Fermentation

Lactosan has three complete fermentation lines which are controlled by a process control system and can be fully sterilised.

In the enzyme production process, ultrafiltration and diafiltration systems are used to concentrate the product and for buffer exchange respectively.

DNA depletion is another optional step in the enzyme production process to increase the purity of the product.

Freeze drying

The aim of freeze-drying is to obtain a dried, very water-soluble product that retains the properties of the original product after the addition of water.

Grinding

After drying, further processing takes place in the respective powder line. The product flakes dried by lyophilisation are crushed in mills.

After the drying and milling process, the powder is processed on the relevant powder line and the final product is mixed according to specification.
